Task 2 – Research

Capital FM

Capital FM is a radio station that is based in the south west of England but now it has many radio branches over the country playing music all over the country, this radio station can be found between the conferences 95-106. I found out that Capital FM was first named Galaxy FM and that it was first launched in 1990, On 3 January 2011, The Galaxy Network and The Hit Music Network merged to create Capital.

In 2012 Capital FM released this advert (above), it features modern pop stars that help promote the radio station with each pop star the background changes colour and every line they say is short and snappy, they get right to the point also the colour makes the pop star stand out.

In 2013 Capital FM released another advert but this time instead of being in colour it has been changed into black and white but still has A-List pop stars to help promote the radio station with short lines with each star making it short and snappy.

Key 103

Key 103 is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to the city of Manchester and the north west of England. It can be found on the frequencies of 103 only as it is a local independent radio station. It first aired in 1974 under the stations first name which was called Piccadilly Radio and then in 1988 it changed its name to Key 103.

In 2014 Key 103 showed off its advertisement for its summer live which is a concert at an arena in Manchester, this advert features pop stars in the video to grab people’s attention about the concert. Right at the being of the video it starts off by showing their logo so the audience knows who it is straight away and then once the logo is off the screen it goes straight to the point of what the main video is about. In the video they use bright colours to make the text stand out plus they use lights that move around the text which would help drag the attention to what the light is moving around.

In Salford City Colleges there are 3 main colleges; Walkden college, Eccles Sixth Form college and Pendleton College.

Eccles Sixth Form Centre’s in house professional broadcasting suite provides students with an outlet to broadcast music based radio programming around college via E6 Radio.

Students on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production course use the suite and E6 radio station to produce coursework in music based programming, news production for radio and commercial production for radio.
